Schedule Dirt Work

What Makes Us Different

We always use the proper soil for the job. Whether it is for building a pad or growing grass, different applications require different soil types. With our knowledge and experience we will always choose the proper soil for the desired outcome.

We remove all topsoil and grass before starting any construction. Grass will decay and topsoil doesn't compact properly. Grass and topsoil must be removed to start on good solid ground.

We also use a compaction roller on all our projects requiring compaction. A lot of companies will use the wrong equipment or not even compact at all. Soil must also be added in 8"-12" "lifts" to ensure proper compaction throughout the entire soil profile. Without the correct equipment and knowledge, proper compaction will never be achieved.

House Pads in Lindale, TX

When building a house pad, it’s essential to start with the right kind of dirt to compact it well. With the right dirt and the right compaction, your foundation will stay supported for years to come. At Frontier Land Works, we take the time to do the job right with the following process.

  • Degrass and remove topsoil: This is a vital step to ensure a proper foundation. Grass and topsoil must be removed prior to adding and soil to prevent future ground settling and foundation issues.
  • Bring in red select clay: For house pads the best type of soil to use is red select clay. This is because it compacts better than any other soil and will provide a solid foundation. We get this dirt in one of two ways: 1) find some on your property, usually while building a pond, or 2) haul it in. We work with multiple dirt pits around the area to get you the best price.
  • Layer dirt in lifts: When the actual pad construction begins, the dirt must be added in layers so that proper compaction can be achieved. These lifts are usually 8"-12" at a time and compacted with a drum roller between each lift.
  • Finish Grade: We will level out your pad with a laser transit when it is at the correct elevation to have a level flat area to build on. We also grade out all the edges and slopes of the pad so that water has positive drainage away from the building and you will be ready to add topsoil and landscaping once the building construction is complete.

Pond Construction in Lindale, TX

When you’re building a pond, it should go without saying that you don’t want it to leak. However, that’s not always the case. Many contractors won’t take the time to construct your pond in a way where it won’t lose water over time.

Frontier Land Works doesn’t do that. We’ve perfected a system that will keep your pond filled for years to come. That’s why we are the preferred pond builders in Lindale, TX.

  • Build a keyway: This is one of the most important steps when building a pond. Wherever you’re building the dam for your pond, you dig a keyway into the natural soil beneath. You then fill this hole with red clay and compact it to build the dam on top.Using red dirt in the keyway is essential since it will hold water when you create your pond. If you just use natural soil, it won’t mesh well and will eventually create a gap for water to leak out of.
  • Strip off topsoil in the pond area: We remove all the topsoil and grass in the pond area so that it does not get mixed in with the dam and create leaks in the future. The topsoil can then be used to spread back over the dam to get grass growing when construction is complete.
  • Line the pond with red clay: We do this for the same reason we do it in the keyway, especially if you have sandy or rocky soil. This keeps the soil and water from going anywhere it shouldn’t.
  • All these steps ensure a pond that will hold water and stand the test of time.

Driveways & Parking Lots in Lindale, TX

When you’re building a driveway or parking lot, you want it to last for years to come. That’s why it’s important to use the proper installation method to keep it standing properly. Frontier Land Works thoroughly builds your driveway to leave you with a quality, driveable structure.

  • Grade the site with dirt work: Creating proper drainage is one of the most important parts of building a driveway so water doesn’t run over it. That’s why we start by digging ditches, adding culverts, and/or grading areas to ensure the water goes where it needs to.
  • Strip topsoil and grass: To give your driveway a good foundation, we strip the topsoil and grass to prevent any future settling.
  • Build up any low areas and compact: If there are any low areas that are holding water or creating erosion, we will build them up and re-direct the water flow off the road. The road is then compacted in preparation for gravel.
  • Add gravel and road base: Once the dirt work is complete, the gravel can then be added, graded, and compacted with a smooth drum roller. Some of the more popular choices for gravel are crushed concrete or crushed limestone for the base, and crushed asphalt or loose limestone rock to cap over the base. We source gravel from multiple companies to find the best price for you.
